Modeling and Simulation of Sliding Mode Circulating Current Control of Modular Multilevel Converter

 

Implementation Plan:

 

Step 1: Initially, we will construct the three phase modular Multilevel converter by using a DC source and wye Load system in Simulink.

Step 2: Then, we simulate the model and collect current, voltage and power data.

Step 3: Next, we will transform the three-phase (abc) signals into the dq reference frame to simplify control by converting AC quantities into DC-like signals, enabling analysis and regulation of the circulating current based on collected data.

Step 4: Next, we design a Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) using circulating current error to control and reduce it under disturbances based on collected data.

Step 5: Next, we apply the SMC to eliminate second-order harmonics in the circulating current, significantly reducing circulating current and THD to improve efficiency and reducing losses and voltage ripple based on collected data.

Step 6: Finally, we plot performance for the following metrics:

6.1 : Time (s) vs. Circulating Current (A)
6.2 : Time (s) vs. THD (%)
6.3 : Time (s) vs. Power (W)
6.4 : Time (s) vs. Voltage (V)

 

Software Requirements:

 

1. Development Tool: Matlab-R2023a/Simulink or above

2. Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit) or above
